Kate Shuttleworth is a businesswoman, entrepreneur, raconteur and bon vivant. She was the recipient of the Top Woman in Business and Government Entrepreneur of the Year in 2008 and has featured in the Nedbank Book of Women. Kate has written and published a number of short stories, and has been providing quality household staff to everyone form the presidents to sport stars. She also has three daughters who now help out in the business. Almost 20 years ago Kate founded Marvellous Maids and has since been the driving force behind quality domestic service provision in the country. Her new initiative, Quality Household Staff, takes out the hassle of trying to find new household staff, handling everything from reference checking to finding the right fit for each employer and employee. Quality Household Staff knows that a young family has different staff requirements to a retired couple and their famed service provides busy people with the reliable staff that they so desperately need. Kate Shuttleworth worked in Soweto from 1982 and lived in Umlazi, outside Durban, in the late 1980’s. she was brought up in the privileged suburbs but when combined with her knowledge and experience from ‘the township years’ as well as her legal expertise, Kate was uniquely positioned to head up and start this kind of cross-cultural business. Since starting her business, Kate has provided Quality Household Staff to presidents and princes, to earls and lords and ladies, to captains of industry and major players in national sporting teams, to literati, glitterati, archbishops and ministers, cabinet and of religion. She has placed them with millionaires, billionaires and people with airs and graces, but no money. They don’t just supply the rich and famous though. Every day Kate Shuttleworth and her daughters Clare, Natalie and Michelle place household staff in ordinary houses to ordinary families who understand the need to have their homes run and their children cared for while they are out there earning a living.

Quality Household Staff remains the employer and offer you the flexibility to swap and change between your services and staff with no hassle. We are responsible for all leave, sick, family responsibility pay, UIF and CCMA. Your lady would be delivered to your home on the day of your service between 08h00 and 09h00. She will be in full Quality Household Staff uniform and will make her own way home after she is done. Your lady will also bring her own basic lunch with her. Our char team staff works for up to seven hours and may take a half an hours break. Our char team ladies are able to do anything domestic – wash dishes, windows, clean bathrooms, washing, ironing, mopping, etc. They won’t wash pets or motor vehicles and they won’t do any gardening – we have men for that. Your cleaning lady for the day will make use of your cleaning products and equipment, however we are able to provide a basic cleaning kit at an additional cost for pre/post occupation cleans or spring cleaning. You are able to choose between having a lady once off, bi-weekly, weekly or even monthly. Our daily rate is R330 per person per day and should you require a cleaning kit that is charged at an additional R330 not because it is so much but because of the logistics that goes with dropping it off and collecting it at the end of the service. Should you wish to make use of the service on a more regular basis we are able to offer you one of our contract options. Our contract workers works on the same principal however you pay a monthly rate instead of a daily rate. Our contracts are payable in advance and we require a calendar months’ notice should you wish to cancel.
