Situated in what is commonly called the "new south" of Johannesburg, Glenvista is an affluent suburb that has enjoyed great development over the last few years. Due to an increase in investment, the amount of property for sale in Glenvista is growing steadily. Numerous tasteful developments and recently renovated houses can be seen throughout the suburb, adding to the appeal. Glenvista has become popular mainly owing to the fact that the area is typically not as busy as many of Johannesburg''''s other suburbs. Traffic is generally sparse, making it ideal and easy for residents who commute to and from work. Glenvista’s large community is distinctly cosmopolitan in character and is an area which is known for its peaceful, safe and beautiful atmosphere. The surrounding natural thorn bushes and veld are special in that they present Glenvista with a picturesque setting whilst also providing a wild habitat for many meerkats, guinea fowl and rock dassies. When gold was discovered in the area, mining companies took ownership of the land. While it was mostly used for mining purposes, there were some areas that were de-proclaimed and used for agricultural and farming purposes. A significant area in The South Joburg War of 1947, Glenvista along with Mulbarton, Glenanda and Bassonia formed part of the Imperialist Alliance.
